Travelodge Review; Newhall, Birmingham

Exterior of Travelodge Newhall, BirminghamWhen I travel, there are certain aspects that are really important to me, to ensure a stress free trip. They include; a clean room, a comfortable bed, friendly service and a good breakfast. These requirements may seem fairly basic, but I am not travelling to stay in a hotel, I am travelling to explore the area, so I would rather have a good, reliable base and not spend the crown jewels, leaving more budget for good food and fun. I have stayed in a few Travelodges over the years and found them to be perfectly suited to my needs. They offer a comfortable place to stay and the facilities have always exceeded my expectations for a place that is often interpreted as fairly low budget. This was my first visit to Birmingham Newhall Travelodge and this is my review of how it measured up to my previous stays. We were offered a free stay in return for an honest review.

Our first impressions of the venue were excellent. We received a warm welcome and were quickly given our keys and directed to our room. The first floor room was perfectly clean and contained everything we could possibly need for our stay. As I was sharing with my daughter, we were given a family room, which contained one very comfortable kingsize bed and two single fold out beds, which my daughter, who is 20, had no problem sleeping on! Here is a picture of the kingsize bed, it really was ridiculously comfortable and by far the loveliest hotel bed I've slept in.

One of the biggest bugbears of the traveller is missing home comforts and your own bed is a big comfort to leave behind. I can genuinely say though, despite all the problems I suffer with my back, I slept just as well as I would have at home. And so did Jade, So much so, that it was a good job that they serve breakfast until 11am on weekends! Although, in her defence, she wasn't well all weekend and I was really pleased she could come and keep me company at all. For breakfast, we were spoilt for choice and it all looked freshly cooked and delicious. I didn't have the cooked breakfast, so I can't personally comment on it, but it looked lovely and was delivered to a buffet hot plate in regular small amounts, so that nothing was left standing for too long.

There were various cereals to choose from, as well as croissants, yoghurt, granola and fresh fruit. I had croissants and granola, along with fresh orange juice. Jade had fresh fruit, croissants and hot chocolate. All the food was lovely. My only slight issue was that the croissants were cold and the only option to reheat them was via a microwave, which made them soggy. I think this was down to personal preference, though, as Jade was quite happy to have her croissants cold!

We also had our evening meal in the restaurant and really enjoyed it./ The menu wasn't extensive, but the food was beautiful cooked, with generous portions. What really made it exceptional though, and this actually goes for our whole stay, was the friendly, welcoming staff. Our waitress for the evening sitting, Simone, could not have been more cheerful or pleasant and it really made our meal extra special that she made such an effort to make time for us, when she must have had lots of other things to do. She is an asset to the company and I'm sure she will go on to bigger and better things. Overall, our stay at Newhall Street, Birmingham exceeded our expectations. The service was excellent and the location is ideal for access to all areas of the city. I would be happy to recommend this hotel and look forward to staying there again in the future.
