Bristol does Summer!

Running through the splash pools
This week we had a lovely day out in Bristol. We headed down to The Habourside and spent a couple of hours relaxing in the conveniently placed deckchairs, in front of At-Bristol, the science museum we love. You can read our review of At-Bristol by clicking the link. Meanwhile, highlights of the Commonwealth Games were showing on the big screen, while L frolicked in the splash pools. It was such a lovely, laid back atmoshpere and all the children played really happily together. This brilliant facility is provided free of charge and there were plenty of people unpacking picnics and settling in for the day.

It made a refreshing change to be able to sit back in total comfort, instead of teetering on some grungy old hard wooden bench! The children were fascinated by the different water features, particularly the shooting fountains and the water wall. I liked the textured surface on the bottom of the water area, as, despite all the hurtling about that went on, not one child slipped in the water. However, the area just outside the splash pools can get very slippery so please remind children to take care on exiting the splash pool area.

After a stroll along the waterfront to look at the boats and have some lunch, we boarded the Bristol Packet for a tour of the harbour. The tour costs £17 for a family of four and takes around 45 minutes. It was very entertaining and we found out some interesting facts along the way. In the 1800's, the Hotwells Spring was closed to the public when it was discovered to be less 'health-giving' and more 'radioactive', oops!  It was lovely to see beautiful ships, such as the SS Great Britain and The Matthew up close. The Matthew is free to look around and you can book tickets to sail for between £6-£10 per person, or £25 for a family of four.
