1. My favourite tip that works for me, is being a little bit smug! If I am trying to resist something that everyone else is munching on, or drinking, I focus on how awesome I am for not giving in!
2. Some people find that not having any treats at all works best for them, in which case, refer to tip 1. If, however, you are someone who finds that restricting yourself that much is impossible, save a treat for the end of the day. It will help you resist temptation if you have something to look forward to and you will enjoy it so much more when you've waited for it!
3. Invest in a popcorn maker. These are not expensive and the process is quite entertaining to watch! Air popped popcorn is a whole grain snack, and a great alternative to crisps, but beware of shop-bought varieties that can be loaded with fat and sugar.

4. With all the festivities and rushing around going on, it's easy to forget the basics, but this can be disastrous. I find if I don't drink as much water, I start snacking more. So, I make sure I have a pint of water with every meal. It's easier to remember and, if I get distracted and forget to drink in between, at least I've got most of my daily intake.
6. Think about what it is you really want. I've added this tip, because sometimes I really feel like some nutty chocolate, when actually, it's the nut aspect that's appealing. If this happens to you, grab a small handful of almonds or cashews instead. You will get all the nutrients from the nuts, without the empty calories and fat from the chocolate.
7. Don't let relatives staying mean you change your good habits. If you usually try to get your half hour of exercise in each day, suggest a walk after dinner, or even some family ball games, if there are children around. It does everyone good to get some fresh air and the children will benefit from running off some of their excitement!
8. Stay focused. This is easier said than done, in the heat of the moment, but give it a try. You will still need to tap into your will power, but before you reach for that sausage roll, take a moment to picture yourself in skinny jeans, or a beautiful, fitted dress. Having a positive focus is much better than concentrating your thoughts on what you are missing out on.
9. Do you know a feeder? The sort of person who brings you huge treats, when really a small one will do, but you don't want to hurt their feelings? In an ideal world, we would say something, but sometimes, especially if the weight-loss struggle has been a long one, it can be hard to be taken seriously. However, all is not lost. Make a point of sharing the goodies, There are usually lots of visitors over Christmas, so this is a good opportunity to bring out any well-meant 'gifts', so you aren't tempted to eat them all yourself.
10. Finally, remember how far you've come! However much you have achieved on your weight-loss journey so far, be proud of yourself! You've made positive steps and will continue to do so. Have faith in yourself and enjoy the positive effects of your weight loss so far. Most of all, relax and enjoy the holiday season, it's not all about food!
I love Christmas, it is definitely my favourite part of the year. I have a soft spot for mince pies and stollen, but I will try and follow your first tip and be a little bit smug! :) x
ReplyDeleteGreat tips as I always put weight on over Christmas. I should drink more water, it's my downfall! I am also a feeder lol. My poor son gets so many sweets over Christmas
ReplyDeleteGreat advice, especially the sharing bit. :)
ReplyDeleteIts just all so tempting, especially being offered lovely sweet treats everywhere I go :)
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of investing in a popcorn maker. Especially like you said it cuts down on calories in comparison to shop brought snacks x
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that I don't put on weight at Christmas but that is probably as I refrain from buying all the sweet treats as they just don;'t get eaten
ReplyDeleteGreat tips to support those on a weight loss journey. I think the odd treat should be fine and love the advice to work out if it is a particular flavour you want such as nuts like you mention.
ReplyDeleteI insist on getting out for a walk, I need it and do do the kids!
ReplyDeleteI like your ideas! Interesting :))
