Halloween is a lot of fun for children, but it can be a scary and nerve-wracking time for elderly or vulnerable people. Genuine trick or treating children don't want to venture where they are not welcome or disturb people who would prefer to be left alone, so a sign like this can be helpful to everyone. You are very welcome to print this out and use it if you would like to. You could perhaps take one round to an elderly neighbour or relative if it would be useful to them. Some older people get quite intimidated by lots of people knocking on the door, particularly if they are in costumes and it's not easy to see who they are.
only prob is unless u have a light outside it wont be visible and half the time it will just be small kids at the door, and who wont read it
ReplyDeleteOur local police or neighbourhood watch hand these out.
ReplyDeleteIt makes it easier for the kids and I, they know they aren't allowed to knock at those.
It's better than sitting in darkness pretending to be out like some do. :-/
we dont seem to get many guisers anymore think there more parties through schools etc but i might still print it lol
ReplyDeleteIn my neighborhood, people put carved pumpkins outside of their house when they are happy with trick or treats.
ReplyDeleteSo kids look for pumpkins and skip all the houses without.
This is a fab idea. To be fair though, when we've been out trick or treating with our daughter and her friends, we always stir the kids away from homes without any lights on or clearly not into Halloween :)
ReplyDeleteTrick or treating is HUGE on the estate I live on - literally 100s of children will be out and about. The rule we all have is to only knock on doors with a lit pumpkin outside
ReplyDeleteIn our village the rule is to put a lit pumpkin outside your house if you're happy for people to knock. Then we don't disturb others!
ReplyDeleteWe make a big fuss in our neighbourhood but my kids know not to knock on a door without a pumpkin outside
ReplyDeleteAh this is such a good idea. I quite like trick or treaters but even I get nervous opening the door!
