Remembering Jack for National Poetry Day 2015

Family photo under a tree
I originally wrote this almost exactly three years ago, although it really doesn't seem that long. It was something I did to reach out to a friend during an incredibly difficult time. It was meant to let her know I was thinking of her and I cared, but it ended up doing so much more, but that's another story. It is the poem I will always be most proud of, because I wrote it from everything I was thinking at the time. I didn't edit or mess about with it, I just wrote it from the heart. It is the most genuine poem I've ever written. I hope you like it and forgive me this little indulgence.

Remembering Jack

An angel in heaven looks down from above,
But no words of comfort will lessen your pain,
Something so perfect, created from love,
One day, my darling, you'll see him again.

In the twinkle of light in his brother's eye,
In the moon reflected in a puddle of rain,
On the Autumn breeze, with its whispering sigh,
One day, I'm sure, you'll see him again.

It's hard to believe, but the sun will come back,
And your love for each other will help ease the pain,
You'll find warmth and comfort, remembering Jack,
And knowing one day, you'll see him again.

You'll keep him close to your heart always,
And remember him, talk of him, say his name,
And he'll be a part of all of your days,
Then, in the end, you'll see him again.

  3. Such a beautiful way to remember and give comfort. I read your linked article too and agree that friendships are powerful and important no matter how or when they occur. What a wonderful way to support a mum and a family going through heartache -- we should all be so lucky to have friends like you! Visiting from #ThrowbackThursday
