How Direct Line Made my Daughter's Day!

Girl With Hamper
It's often said that it isn't the value of the gift that's important, but the thought and time that went into it. I am a great believer in this. It's not that I don't appreciate extravagant gifts, but my best presents will always be the ones that mean somebody was thinking about me. The trinkets my daughter used to find at car boot sales or charity shops, because she knew I would really love them, the cards and gifts the children have made me over the years, and not forgetting the card with a recording of my son saying 'Happy Birthday Mummy' when he had not long learned to talk. For my birthday this year, it made me so ridiculously happy that my nephews, aged two and four, took time out of their day to draw me lovely pictures, I could have exploded with joy! So, that's me, a great believer in; 'It's the thought that counts'.

When I heard about Direct Line's #DirectFix campaign, it became apparent that they share this philosophy. The campaign has been causing quite a stir on twitter, and it's not hard to see why. They have been responding to people's problems and predicaments in spectacular style, delivering carefully tailored boxes of joy into the lives of lucky members of the public. All they had to do, was tweet their issue to them, with the #DirectFix hashtag.

As it was Monday, I left to do some shopping and then collect my son from school, in order to take him to his Street Dance class in a nearby town. Usually I leave my daughter something to cook for herself, as we get back quite late. She is very self-sufficient, but there's not normally much in the house that you can cook quickly for one person, so I'd grab her a pizza, or something similar. Except I forgot and, to make matters worse, I had left her doing my ironing, so I was feeling pretty guilty about my neglect! I was aware Direct Line were in Bristol this week, so, on the spur of the moment, and not really expecting anything to come of it, I tweeted them and explained my guilty situation. They responded very quickly asking for my daughter's name and my address. Sure enough, a couple of hours later, I got a phone call from a very gleeful daughter describing the sumptuous Marks and Spencer's meal for one that had been cheerfully delivered by the friendliest bunch of people you could meet. The attention to detail was incredible. Gastropub ready meal, cups, plates, elderflower presse, and even Madagascan vanilla slices for dessert!

We really couldn't get over the level of consideration that had gone into this gift. My daughter was absolutely thrilled to meet such nice people and be a little bit spoilt and I couldn't help thinking, it must be kind of a nice job to have, delivering treats for the day. The team certainly seemed happy in their work! One of my friends saw the photo I posted on Twitter and she tweeted them, explaining how she had forgotten to buy her hair products and got a hand delivered box of hair help!

This is what is so lovely about the whole idea. It's so thoughtful and personal to the individual, you can't help but smile, even if you have been having a particularly rotten day! It's such a fantastic way to bring a little happiness into people's lives. Well done to the lovely folk at Direct Line for coming up with such a fun publicity drive and long may it's success continue! Keep an eye on the @DirectLine_UK twitter feed to find out if they are coming to a town near you. They could be making your day, or someone's you know, very soon!
