Tefal Fresh Express Review

Tefal Fresh Express
I have had my Fresh Express for a while now and I use it all the time. I have been meaning to do a review and just hadn't got around to it, but I've just spotted it's half price in Tesco at the moment, so thought this was as good a time as any! What I love about the Express is how small it is. It is solidly made, so it doesn't feel flimsy, but it is very efficiently designed. It is easy to assemble and all the pieces fit together, so storage is very straightforward and it doesn't take up any more space than is absolutely necessary, which is a huge bonus in a small kitchen. It is also very simple to use, with just one large button that is easy to access and press, even if you have messy hands from cooking.

It features two different size shredders, a grater and a slicer, which is great for making those thin slices of cucumber or carrot, which are impossible to do by hand. It really helps make vegetables stretch further as well, so it would probably pay for itself eventually (if you need an excuse to buy one!). Cheese also goes further if you grate it too, and you can have fun with mixing different coloured cheeses to make it more appealing for your fussier little ones. Some of you may have noticed, this is a bit of a speciality of mine! Here is a strong white Cheddar mixed with some Red Leicester. Pretty, isn't it?

All the washable parts are dishwasher safe, and the base is very easy to wipe clean. It is worth bearing in mind that this product is primarily for salad vegetables and cheese. What it does, it does really well, but it won't work on some vegetables, such as onion or tomato. I think it's the softer surfaced vegetables that it struggles with, it needs a bit of a tougher surface! The only other slight issue, is that the cone tends to spin the gratings outwards, so you can end up with a bit of overspill, even with a dinner plate, as you will probably see in the bottom picture.

Two Colour Grated Cheese

Overall, I'm really pleased with it. It's getting a lot of use in my kitchen and I find it really convenient, as I have to make a lot of sandwiches at once and my son loves the grated carrot as a healthy snack. I don't think I would recommend it for a small family, as its main benefit is making a lot of slicings or gratings very quickly, saving time, but if you have a larger family, or enjoy entertaining, this is a worthwhile product to have to hand.

  7. I have thought about buying one of these too & your review has made up my mind. Hubby can continue to use his multi purpose slicer thingy as this does seem limited. Great review & thank you.

  8. Looks great gadget but I think it would be limited in our house as I'm pretty much the only one who eats salad vegetables #triedtested
