There are lots of reasons why it may become necessary to invest in new furniture, such as changes in style and also personal taste. Major life changes can also result in needing to update your indoor furniture, Some of these are listed below. Read on to find out how you can improve your chances of securing the best furniture pieces for your space and avoid wasting a lot of money on something you are not ultimately happy with.

When you move into a new home
A new home can mean a total change of style. If your home is a period property and you've come from a modern space, your contemporary choices could suddenly look completely out of place. Often, furniture is purchased to fit the particular shape of a room, even the ceiling height can render a perfectly serviceable piece of furniture entirely useless.

When you move in together
A single futon bed might have worked for you when you were a student and your needs were more leaning towards 'cheap' and 'compact', but when you set up home with a partner, a different set of needs will need to be met, along the lines of 'comfortable' and 'free of stains and debris'. This is no time to get sentimental about study nights and toga parties, it's time to let go and make new memories in comfort. Rattan Garden Furniture has an extensive range of modern and appealing options to update your space, from cube sets, bistro sets, sofa sets, dining sets, fire pit dining, loungers, day beds and even accessories.

When you start a family
Welcoming your first child into the world is a joyful and utterly terrifying time in every new parent's life. There are a world of different aspects to worry about, including... everything. When you are a new parent you will worry about everything. From the stability of the furniture to the height of the doorknobs, nothing will escape your scrutiny. Important aspects that need to be considered are adequate, appropriate storage, a designated play area and furniture that cannot be pulled over easily. The best furniture is the kind that grows with your child and can be repurposed as they get older.

For Personal Comfort
Comfort should always be of the essence when considering furniture and what we find comfortable might change as we get older. Back problems may dictate the height of furniture and a high back to chairs and sofas might also be beneficial. As children get older, it may be necessary to expand the amount of seating to accommodate them and their friends. These are definitely things to consider if you are investing in furniture to last a long time.

Working from Home
If your circumstances mean you begin working from home, your furniture needs to accommodate that. This could mean investing in a desk and comfortable chair and it's worth spending the time looking around as there are so many options for different budgets and spaces. If you are short of space, you could get a small desk with built-in storage to make the best use of the space. The money saved from commuting will hopefully mean a bit more in the budget to build the perfect in-home work environment.

When your Furniture is Wearing Out
When your furniture has seen better days, it is best to replace it before it wears out completely and breaks, potentially causing injury, or at the very least, leaving you with nothing to sit on or eat off. By replacing it before it is completely unusable, you have time to look for the perfect replacement at the right price, instead of having to buy in a rush because you are suddenly without an essential piece of furniture.

Top Tips for Stress-Free Furniture Buying

Don't Skimp on the Research
Before you even consider walking into a shop, have a look around online, in magazines and even at friends and family's houses, to see what is popular and what you like and don't like. Style is important and can completely change the look of the room, so it's good to know what kind of look you are hoping to achieve overall. There may have also been advances in design and production, particularly if you've treasured, or been stuck with, your current choices for a long time. Different materials and finishes can change not just the look, but also the longevity of a piece of furniture, so consider how much you can realistically spend, against how long you want the piece to last.

Measure Everything
Never try to guess the size of a space when buying furniture, you will probably be miles off and regret it forever. Before you leave for the furniture shops, measure every aspect of the furniture you currently have and the space in which it sits. Don't forget the height from the floor to the seat, as this is crucial for comfort when rising and sitting. Sometimes furniture is placed on plinths in the shop, which can exaggerate the height when you try them out, so bear this in mind when you do the stand-up - sit-down test. Also, take into account the height of the back of the chair or sofa, as this can also have a huge bearing on comfort. It also stands to reason to use this time to have a good think about the aspects of your current furniture that you'd like to improve. Don't forget to take the tape measure with you to measure the furniture you like in the shop and a list of essential features and aspects you would like to improve on from your current furniture.

Take Someone With You
New furniture is often a big financial investment and there are infinite designs and style choices, so it really helps to have another opinion to bounce ideas off and remember what you liked and didn't like in different shops. If you are taking your significant other or flatmate, who also has a vested interest in this purchase, set some ground rules before you go, to avoid coming to blows in the shop. Make a list of what you both consider essential in your furniture choice, agree on a price range and strict upper limit, list anything you can rule out to save time and be prepared to walk away if you don't agree.

Try Before You Buy
You will have the opportunity to view and try out the furniture in the shop, so make sure you take advantage of this. Don't be embarrassed or self-conscious about sitting for a while, trying out different postures and really getting to know the furniture. It's tempting to sit stiffly on the edge of the seat for a minute because you feel a bit silly, but this won't tell you if the back is high enough or the arms too soft. The furniture is there to be tried and the salespeople won't be at all surprised if you try it out as if you were in your own home, since that's the best way to find out if it's right for you. You are making an investment, that will be in your home for a long time, this is no time to be shy.

Take Your Time
There is a lot to consider when buying furniture, so accept it may take a while and allow plenty of time to look around and compare choices. If you are not 100% on board, it is ok to walk away and have a think about it. There may be salespeople assisting in the shop, but don't feel pressured into making a choice. Even if the item is available at a special price, most shops have sales and events throughout the year, so it's unlikely you will miss out if you don't buy it straight away. Besides, it's better to risk missing a bargain than be stuck with an expensive purchase that isn't right for you or your living space.
