Quiz Night Success!

I am really pleased to report that our very first Quiz Night was a roaring success! We raised £105 in two hours and everyone that commented said it was great fun! There were initially a few tweakings going on, as the format was untested, but over all it seemed to work really well and I was so pleased with the positive responses we received.

Bex, from I Always Believed in Futures, said; "I loved it - I got plenty of page views all whilst helping a good cause. May have helped that one lady read almost my entire blog trying to find the answer!"

Jane, from Phileas Dogg, commented; "My website had another sixty plus hits thanks to Quiz Night. It was lovely to donate a fiver and know that Lucy was publicising my blog for me while I relaxed for the weekend on a break in Pembrokeshire."

And Sarah-Louise, from Life in a Breakdown, added; "I would definitely do something like it again, it was great fun and interesting to see people pop around and look for the answers."

The basic idea was to find some lovely blogs and companies who would be prepared to sponsor the event, for a very modest fee, in return for lots of new visitors to their websites. Then we all gathered on a Facebook event page and I spent two hours firing out questions, the answers to which could only be found on the sponsor's sites. Prizes were awarded for one correct answer from each round, with a fabulous grand prize from all the entries throughout the night. Like a sort of virtual treasure hunt! I had no idea if it would work, but thankfully it did and I was so pleased to see so many people come along to support us.

So, what did we learn? Firstly, it's always a good idea to check your spellings! One of the first questions I released may have had a slight spelling mistake in the blog title that sent everyone on a wild goose chase round the bloggerverse for a little while, whoops! Secondly, never underestimate your local knowledge! I am Bristolian, Gromit (of Wallace and Gromit) is Bristolian. Bristol was covered in Gromit statues for the whole of last summer, so I thought asking the name of the dog in my Bristol Bloggers badge would be a nice easy question to start us off, yes?! Apparently not. Some of our less Southern competitors had a REALLY hard time and google got a bit of a hammering! Thirdly, it's worth remembering that not everyone is used to finding and navigating around different blogs! After a few questions, it became apparent that it was much easier to add the link to the blog into the question, to make it a bit easier for people to find. On the plus side, lots of newbies have now been introduced to some brilliant blogs, so hopefully they will come back and visit some of their favourites! And lastly, we learned that staying in is definitely the new going out on a Saturday night, and it's even possible to be in the running for some fab prizes, whilst having an entertaining time. All free and from the comfort of your own home! Here's Tony, from Life Loves Winners, who won a prize on the night, with his thoughts;
"I would definitely say it was something different to the normal comps, got the old grey matter working and was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Well run and I totally hope that you run further events like this. Hats off to you and all that helped to make it happen."
Thank you so much for your comments, Tony, it's always lovely to see someone enjoying their prize!

I really hope the next event will be even bigger, with more sponsors, even bigger prizes and lots more money raised! You can help to make this happen, and we would really appreciate your help. Please join us on the night, we would love to see you, and can't run the event without your support! Also, do get in touch if you are a blogger or business who would like to donate a small amount of money to have lots of new visitors to your website, or if you would like to donate a small prize, we would also love to hear from you. All  proceeds raised go towards our ongoing fundraiser, Remembering Jack to buy a vital Automatic Syringe Pump for the Neonatal Department at Addenbrookes Hopital. Hope to see you there!
