Men's Wood Watch Review with Jord Watches

Men's wood watch, in lidded wooden box with title text overlayedThis year the husband has a pretty big milestone birthday. He has been dropping various hints, such as moaning more and being even grumpier about the weather and other old man-type complaints. This is how we remember that he is getting that little bit older and, with that, comes a problem. Over the years he has collected all manner of male gifts and knick-knacks and each year, we find it harder to think of the perfect gift. I bought him a sat-nav, which he argues with, and a tablet, which just seems to give him better access to the football scores he would probably be better off not knowing about, so this year I wanted to go for something more traditional. Fortunately, along came Jord with a fabulous array of men's watches for me to choose from to review. How serendipitous is that?

The watches hail all the way from the US and have one unique feature in common. They are crafted from wood. I've always loved the idea of a wooden watch, because I like items that offer something a bit different and the unique patterns and designs of the grain create a beautiful, unique effect. I love the unusual designs of these watches and was particularly drawn to the Frankie Series in Zebra and Navy. The colour of the face is stunning and it's really easy to see the numbers, which I think is very important if you want a wearable, practical timepiece. The watch is presented in the most exceptional wooden keepsake box, which is really a gift in itself, beautifully crafted and featuring a magnetic closure and handy drawer for spare parts, It is a world away from the mass-produced plastic packaging I'm used to.

As you can see, the face is quite large, but I don't think it's too big. Phil's wrists aren't massive, he's quite a delicate flower, really, and it is a man's watch, so it would look pretty silly if it was too small. The watch is surprisingly comfortable. I imagined it would feel quite hard and unforgiving, but it's actually very smooth and doesn't pinch like metal straps sometimes do. The strap is a little big. You can let Jord know the size of your wrist, to allow them to size the watch for you, but the links are 1cm wide each, so it isn't always possible to get a very snug fit.

Jord clearly care a lot about the quality of their products and the result is something really quite spectacular. If you're looking for a gift that's a little bit different, perhaps for the man who has everything, or someone who is a little more discerning in taste, I think one of these watches would make an excellent gift. For a milestone birthday, it's perfect, as the quality ensures it will last for many years to come and be a lasting reminder of a special occasion. You might not believe it, but despite lending his hairy arm for the photos, Phil has still not seen the watch, I made him do the whole thing with his eyes shut! So, if you catch him trying to sneak a peak at this post, be sure to let me know, we wouldn't want to spoil the surprise! I'm going to leave the last word on this post to the creative minds at Jord, because this is such a lovely quote. You can find Jord over on Facebook and Instagram to find out more about their beautiful watches.

  1. Love the blue face on the watch and great to know that the strap doesn't pinch the skin. Great review LucyI I have a husband that argues with the Sat Nav too, but ours speaks in the voice of Jeremy Clarkson, so it is understandable - the Sat Nav that is, not the husband.

  2. I have one of those at home, grumpy old man that is! I love the line about him dropping hints, that really piqued my interest in reading on!I really like the colour of the face so even though it's a man's watch, it will also attract the women buying for them. My fella has a milestone birthday too next year and I think I might have found just the ticket! It's great that the they're easy to read too as these old men won't admit that their eyesight is failing, they blame what they're looking at!

  6. Beautifully written review, Lucy!
I'm glad to hear it doesn't pinch, it's one of the reasons I don't wear watches. I take it they do a ladies range too?
