My Front Door, by Lorna

A guest post by Lorna, for the My Front Door competition from Yale.

The purpose of your own front door,
Is to make you feel safe and secure,
But we have got a novel way,
to keep the burglars at bay.

Our door is tatty, old and bent,
In truth, no safer than a tent,
Held together with a bolt,
It would fall apart with the slightest jolt.

I tell myself that this is good,
To have a door of weathered wood,
As should a burglar come creeping,
While my family are sleeping...

He would take one look at our gnarly door,
Which makes us look a little poor,
And think it must be someone's shed,
Then ransack them next door instead!
